Integrative Medicine for San Francisco Patients, From Wherever You Are

San Francisco is a big city, and getting across the Bay Area for an appointment is not always simple. Telehealth removes that barrier.

You can meet with Dr. Malathi by video from home or work, anywhere in California. You are still seeing a physician, not a coach or an app.

She reviews your history, symptoms, medications, and existing lab results, then builds a plan with you. Many first conversations and follow-up visits can happen by video.

Telehealth may suit you if you:

  • Live or work in San Francisco and want to skip a long drive
  • Would like to start with a conversation before deciding on in-person care
  • Want follow-up visits that fit around a busy schedule

Telehealth is not the same as visiting the Portola Valley office. Some assessments and treatments, such as a hands-on exam or medical acupuncture, need an in-person visit. Dr. Malathi will tell you when that applies to you.

Meet Dr. Malathi Acharya, MD

Dr. Malathi is a board-certified internal medicine physician and a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Medicine. She completed fellowship training at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona, and brings more than 25 years of clinical experience to her work.

She spent years in conventional internal medicine before expanding into integrative care. That lets her look at your health from both sides, without asking you to choose between them.

“You shouldn’t have to wait until something is wrong to start taking your health seriously.”Dr. Malathi Acharya

She takes time to understand how your symptoms, history, and daily life fit together before recommending anything, and explains the reasoning behind her recommendations so you can decide with confidence.

A Different Way to Look at Your Health

What Does an Integrative Medicine Doctor Do?

An integrative medicine doctor starts with a conventional medical evaluation, then adds evidence-informed approaches where they make sense for you. Nothing is recommended in isolation from the rest of your care.

Conventional Evaluation

Your symptoms, history, medications, lab results, and risk factors are reviewed first.

Integrative Approaches

Nutrition, lifestyle changes, mind-body practices, and selected complementary therapies, where they fit.

Alongside Your Doctors

It does not replace routine primary care. You keep your primary care physician and any specialists.

This is different from wellness coaching. Dr. Malathi is a licensed physician who can interpret your labs and weigh every recommendation against your diagnoses and medications.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, describes integrative health as bringing conventional and complementary approaches together in a coordinated way.

What Patients Come to Ayur For

Health Concerns We Address

Patients often arrive with more than one concern at once. Care is personalized, and these are common starting points.

Perimenopause & Women’s Health

Changes in sleep, mood, energy, and cycles can overlap during perimenopause. Dr. Malathi helps you look at them together. Read about perimenopause and hormone health.

Preventive & Metabolic Health

Blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, and family history can signal future risk. Care focuses on understanding that risk early, through preventive and metabolic health support.

Every plan is individual, and results vary. A discovery call helps determine whether this care fits your concern, and Dr. Malathi will tell you honestly if another type of care would serve you better.

What to Expect

How Integrative Medicine Telehealth Appointments Work

Care by video follows a clear path, from first conversation to ongoing follow-up.

1

Discovery Call

A free call to talk about your concerns and whether Ayur is the right fit. There is no obligation to continue.

2

Detailed Review

Dr. Malathi reviews your medical history, current medications, and any existing lab results. The more complete your records, the more useful the conversation.

3

Personalized Planning

Together you build a plan that fits your health, your priorities, and your daily life. It may include nutrition, lifestyle, mind-body, or other approaches.

4

Ongoing Follow-Up

Follow-up visits let her track your progress and adjust the plan as your needs change. Care continues beyond the first appointment.

Some assessments and treatments need an in-person evaluation, such as medical acupuncture or a hands-on exam. If that applies to you, Dr. Malathi will explain why and help you plan a visit to the Portola Valley office.

Patients from San Francisco can choose in-person care at any time. Some services, such as medical acupuncture, require an office visit.

In-person visits are a good choice if you want a hands-on exam, or simply prefer meeting face to face. You can also combine both, using telehealth for most visits and the office when hands-on care is needed.
