What Is an Ayurvedic Doctor?
Ayurveda is a traditional system of health from India. It looks at digestion, sleep, daily rhythm, stress and diet as parts of one picture. In San Francisco, the people who offer it come from very different backgrounds.
Some are Ayurvedic practitioners trained through private schools. Dr. Malathi is a licensed physician who also trained in Integrative Ayurvedic Medicine. Your consultation sits inside real medical care: she considers your diagnoses, medications and lab results, and tells you when something needs conventional follow-up.
The comparison is about scope, not quality. Many practitioners give thoughtful lifestyle guidance.
Based on California’s rules for unlicensed practitioners (Business and Professions Code 2053.5–2053.6) and the National Ayurvedic Medical Association’s guidance. This is general information, not legal advice.

What Happens in an Ayurvedic Consultation
Every visit starts with you, not with a protocol.

- 1
Your story
Dr. Malathi goes through your health history, your symptoms, your medications, and what you have already tried.
- 2
Your numbers
She reviews any existing lab results and records, so the conversation starts from facts, not guesses.
- 3
An Ayurvedic lens
She looks at digestion, sleep, energy, stress and daily rhythm, and how they fit together in your overall picture.
- 4
A plan you can follow
Together you choose practical steps. They may include nutrition, daily routines and mind-body practices, alongside your existing medical care.
Not every concern suits an Ayurvedic approach. If something needs conventional care first, Dr. Malathi will tell you.

“You shouldn’t have to wait until something is wrong to start taking your health seriously.”

- Start with a free discovery call before you decide

Telehealth is not the same as visiting the office. Some services, such as medical acupuncture, need an in-person visit in Portola Valley, and Dr. Malathi will tell you when that applies.

What Patients Bring to an Ayurvedic Visit
Most people arrive with more than one concern. These are the areas Dr. Malathi sees most often, and each has its own page if you want more detail.
Digestion & Metabolic Health
Gut health, blood sugar, cholesterol and weight are often connected. Ayurveda’s focus on digestion fits naturally with a careful metabolic work-up.
Perimenopause & Hormones
Sleep, mood, energy and cycle changes can overlap. Dr. Malathi looks at them together, with your labs in hand.
Stress, Sleep & Fatigue
Ongoing tiredness rarely has one cause. Daily rhythm, breathwork and mind-body practices can be part of the plan.
Cancer Support
Supportive care alongside your oncology treatment, never in place of it, focused on how you feel day to day.
Every plan is individual and results vary. A discovery call helps decide whether this care fits your concern.
Ayurveda Alongside Your Existing Care
Ayurvedic care does not replace routine primary care. You keep your primary care physician and any specialists, and Dr. Malathi works alongside them.
